Official Rules

From January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022 users of risk and fraud solutions from Thomson Reuters may submit, via this website, brief descriptions of situations where risk and fraud solutions from Thomson Reuters helped that user solve a problem or gain clarity in a tricky situation ("Submissions"). All users will have their Submissions entered in a contest ("Contest") for an Everyday Hero Award, to be awarded after the end of the year, should they choose to include their Submission as an entry ("Entry") in the contest

The Everyday Hero Award ("Awards") consists of $2,500 awards in the name of the Everyday Hero Award Winners ("Winners") to the charity of the Winner's choice identified at the time of Entry and selected from the charities listed under the FAQ section on this page. There will be up to two winners during this submission period. If a Winner is unable to, or unwilling to accept the Award, the Award will be awarded to another Entrant. The Winners will also receive a commemorative physical award to keep. In addition to other possible locations, the name and affiliation of the Winners and the charities receiving the donations will be listed at hero.thomsonreuters.com.

Eligibility

Beginning on January 1, 2022 at 12:00 AM CST through December 31, 2022 at CST Submissions and Entries may be submitted using this website (tr.com/heroes.) In addition to information identifying the individual and affiliation or in the case of an Entry involving a government entity, the agency, ("Entrant"), the Entry must include a brief description of how risk and fraud solutions from Thomson Reuters helped solve a problem or gain clarity in a sticky situation. All information included in the Submissions and Entries must be true and include no proprietary or confidential information.

Entrants must be legal residents of the United States and be 18 or older or be a government entity as of April 7, 2022. Void where prohibited by law. Entrants must include their name, industry, company name, company address, work email and work phone number. Any other attempted form of entry is prohibited. There is no limit on the number of Entries an Entrant may submit.

Employees, officers, directors of Thomson Reuters, Gage, and their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising/ promotional agencies and the members of their immediate family (parents, siblings, children & spouse) regardless of where they live or those persons living in the same household of such employees/officers/directors, whether related or not, are ineligible. The potential Winners must agree to sign the Affidavit of Eligibility within 14 days of being notified of winning.

Submissions and Entries must be written in English. Submissions and Entries that do not fully comply with the requirements set forth herein may be disqualified. Submissions and Entries must not infringe any third-party rights and must not defame or invade publicity rights or the privacy of any person, living or deceased, or otherwise infringe on any person's personal or proprietary rights, and may not have been entered in or won previous contest or awards, or have been published or distributed in any media. Unintelligible or incomplete Submissions and Entries will be disqualified. For non-governmental Entrants, Submissions and Entries become the property of Thomson Reuters and will not be returned. Submissions and Entries must be submitted via the website.

Selection

The potential Winners will be selected by a panel of judges comprised of internal Thomson Reuters employees and external industry representatives. The potential Winners will be selected and notified by January 31, 2023 with the donation made by February 28, 2023. Decisions of the panel are final. Winners will be notified by email, phone or mail.

Release

Entrant warrants and represents that his or her Submission and Entry are (a) original and have been legally created; (b) do not infringe on the intellectual property, privacy or publicity rights or any other legal or moral rights of any third party; (c) have not been entered in or won previous contests or awards; (d) have not been published or distributed previously in any media; and (e) use thereof does not infringe third party rights.

By entering, non-governmental Entrants irrevocably grant Thomson Reuters the unconditional and perpetual right to reproduce, store, copy, publish, post, display, edit and/or otherwise use or reuse (without limitation as to when or to the number of times used) the Entrant's Submission and/or Entry, whether it is chosen as the winning Entry or not, as submitted or as edited/modified in any way by the Thomson Reuters in its sole discretion, and to use Entrant's name, likeness, photograph (collectively, "Likeness"), affiliation and/or statements regarding his/her participation in this Contest (with or without using the Entrant's name) in any and all media without limitation as to time or territory, and without additional compensation or approval from the Entrant or any other party. Entrant waives intellectual property rights, privacy/publicity rights or other legal or moral rights that might preclude the Thomson Reuters' use of the Submission and/or Entry.

In the case of a governmental agency, use of the Submission and/or Entry and information described above will not be used in advertising and marketing, other than posting of the winning of the Hero Award or after receiving permission from an official authorized to make ethics decisions for the agency.

By submitting this Submission and/or Entry, Entrant certifies that to the best of Entrant's knowledge, the information is complete and accurate, and includes no proprietary or confidential information. Inclusion of any false or misleading information or inclusion of any information that violates any proprietary or other rights of another will disqualify the Entrant. Submissions and /or Entries from non-governmental Entrants become the property of Thomson Reuters upon submission. No Submission or Entries will be returned to the Entrant.

Prior to acceptance of an Award, government agency Entrants must submit a clearance request to their agency ethics officer (or applicable agency official authorized to make ethics decisions for the agency) and provide to Thomson Reuters written approval for the agency to accept the Award. Thomson Reuters will provide finalists with a clearance request form to be submitted to the agency ethics officer or applicable agency official.

Entrant will hold harmless Thomson Reuters, its divisions, affiliates and subsidiaries, successors, heirs, assigns, officers and employees, and the charity selected by the Entrant, from all actions, suits, claims and demands of any kind, which Entrant, Entrant's heirs, executors, administrators and assigns had, now have, or hereafter may have, by reason of any matter connected to the Award, without limitation.

Entrant agrees to be responsible for applicable taxes including all federal, state, local, and any other applicable taxes (including income and sales tax.)

By participating, Entrants release and agree to hold harmless Thomson Reuters, their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising/promotional agencies, and the employees, officers, directors, shareholders and agents, and any successors or assigns of any of the above organizations from any and all liability for any injuries, losses or damages to person (including death) and/or property of any kind caused in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, by participation in the Contest or the acceptance, possession or use/misuse of prize.

General Terms: Thomson Reuters reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, modify, or suspend the Contest should a virus, bug, unauthorized human intervention or other cause beyond the control of Thomson Reuters, corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness, or proper play of the Contest. In such event, all Entries received prior to termination will be judged and winner selected from among all eligible Entries received prior to and/or after (as appropriate) the action taken by Thomson Reuters.

Thomson Reuters is not responsible for late, lost, illegible, incomplete, damaged or misdirected Entries; lost, interrupted or unavailable network, server or other connections, miscommunications, computer hardware or software malfunctions or other technical failures of any kind, ISP/network/website accessibility or availability, garbled or jumbled transmissions or other errors of any kind, whether human, mechanical or electronic; including without limitation the incorrect or inaccurate capture of Submission and/or Entry information regardless of cause; appointment and schedule difficulties; Thomson Reuters is also not responsible for incorrect or incomplete Contest information, whether due to electronic, mechanical or other errors, unauthorized access to the website or other cause. Thomson Reuters reserves the right, in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the Submission and/ or Entry process or the operation of the Contest or website or who is in violation of the terms of use of the website as set forth in the West privacy policy. Additionally, Thomson Reuters reserves the right to prosecute any fraudulent activities to the full extent of the law.
