State and Local Minimum Wage Chart: Overview - Preview
A Chart identifying the minimum hourly wage and any scheduled increases in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and key local jurisdictions. This Chart serves as an at-a-glance guide for private sector, for-profit employers regarding their minimum wage obligations for nonunion employees. As many states and over 60 localities have established a minimum wage higher than the federal rate under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), employers must pay the greater of any applicable federal, state, or local rate. This resource helps employers track these varying requirements and scheduled future changes to ensure compliance. This Chart focuses on standard hourly rates and does not address special circumstances, such as different rates for tipped employees, youth workers, specific industries, or employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement. For more on the scope of local law coverage, see Local Law Coverage in Labor & Employment Resources. For more information on state wage and hour laws generally, see Wage and Hour Laws: State Q&A Tool and State Wage and Hour Claims Toolkit.
