Whistleblowing Facts and Figures

With the heightened focus on whistle-blowing since before the financial crisis, the number of cases around the world has increased. For example, the U.S. Securities and Exchange commission reported that in the fiscal year 2013, 3,238 whistleblower requests were received, up by 8 percent from 3,001 in the fiscal year 2012. Across the Atlantic, the UK Financial Conduct Authority has seen a 38 percent rise in whistleblowing reports. Reports averaged around 338 a month in the previous year, whereas the FCA has seen around 467 a month in the past year. This level of activity will no doubt continue in the years to come.
