Janelle Filson Wrigley joined Practical Law from the Federal Trade Commission, where she served as a staff attorney handling both merger investigations and enforcement litigation. Previously she was a litigation associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, specializing in complex antitrust litigation and regulatory review of mergers and acquisitions. Janelle is the managing editor of Practical Law's Antitrust Service.

Bankruptcy

Sarit Shmulevitz joined Practical Law from private practice where she was a bankruptcy litigation attorney representing debtors, creditors, distressed investors, and claims traders in bankruptcy and commercial litigation matters. She was also the CEO and cofounder of a successful startup. Prior to this, Sarit worked with Brown Rudnick LLP, Sidley Austin LLP, and Finkel Goldstein LLP in New York as a bankruptcy and commercial litigator. Previously, Sarit worked in-house at BP Amoco and GlaxoSmithKline. Sarit is the director of Practical Law’s Bankruptcy Service.

Capital Markets & Corporate Governance

Heather McMaster joined Practical Law from Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison LLP, where she was a senior attorney in the capital markets & securities practice group handling a wide range of domestic and international capital markets matters. Before that, she worked as a securities attorney at Stikeman Elliott LLP in Toronto and Eastern Europe. Heather is the director of Practical Law's Capital Markets & Corporate Governance Service.

Central Editorial

Philip Kowalczyk joined Practical Law from Thomson Reuters Global Resources in Baar, Switzerland, where he managed a portfolio of global legal content assets. Before that, Phil held a number of management roles within Thomson Reuters Legal Editorial Operations. Phil is the director of the Central Editorial group which includes contributor relations, State Q&A, copy-editing, training, and editorial operations.

Commercial Transactions

Tom Smolders joined Practical Law from Stratasys, Ltd., where he was Corporate Counsel. Previously, he was senior counsel to the Neuromodulation division of Boston Scientific Corporation. Before that he was assistant general counsel at Quallion LLC, a banking and municipal finance associate at Liebler, Gonzalez & Portuondo, P.A., a general attorney at AAR Corp., and a capital markets associate at Jones Day. Tom is the director of Practical Law's Commercial Transactions Service and Law Department.

Corporate and M&A

Tasha Hailey Hutchins joined Practical Law from Pfizer Inc., where she worked as a corporate attorney specializing in M&A transactions for Pfizer's business transactions group. Previously she was a corporate associate at Dorsey & Whitney LLP. Before that, she worked in the M&A group at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. Tasha is the director of Practical Law’s Corporate and M&A Service.

Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation

Heidi Winzeler joined Practical Law from Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, where she was counsel in the Pensions, Benefits and Executive Compensation Department. Previously she was an associate at both Proskauer Rose LLP and Debevoise & Plimpton LLP. Heidi is the director of Practical Law's Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Service.

Finance

Caroline Danford joined Practical Law from Shearman & Sterling LLP, where she was counsel in the Bank Finance Group. Before that she was an associate with Emmet, Marvin & Martin, LLP. Prior to her law career, she worked for Citicorp Retail Services and American Express in New York, and was a national trust examiner for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (US Treasury Department) in Denver, Colorado. She is director of the Finance Service for Practical Law.

Intellectual Property & Technology

Patricia Harley joined Practical Law from Home Box Office (HBO), where she was associate counsel responsible for distribution of HBO's original programming and information technology matters. Previously she was an associate at Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison LLP, specializing in intellectual property transactions. Before that, she was an intellectual property litigation associate at Weil Gotshal & Manges. Patricia is the director of Practical Law's Intellectual Property & Technology Service.

Erica Gann Kitaev, CIPP joined Practical Law from BakerHostetler LLP, where she was a partner with a focus on privacy and data security. She is a coauthor of West Academic Publishing's Privacy Law in a Nutshell, Second Edition, and she taught privacy law as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver's Sturm College of Law. She was also an associate at Vorys, Sater, Seymour, & Pease LLP.

International Arbitration

Saira Singh joined Practical Law in May 2009 and qualified as a solicitor in 1994 with Lovell White Durrant (now Hogan Lovells LLP), where she specialized in commercial and insurance litigation and arbitration, with an emphasis on contractual disputes and professional negligence claims. In 2001, she became a professional support lawyer in the dispute resolution practice at Lovells, covering litigation, arbitration and ADR. Saira is currently a nonpracticing solicitor, and sits as a Deputy District Judge (Civil) on the Midlands Circuit. She is the head of Practical Law International Arbitration.

Labor & Employment

Kate Bally joined Practical Law from Littler Mendelson P.C., where she worked as an associate in the employment group. Previously she was also an associate at Day Pitney LLP and a law clerk to the Honorable Stefan R. Underhill. Kate is codirector of Practical Law's Labor & Employment Service.

Rachel Byrne joined Practical Law from Dorsey & Whitney LLP, where she was an associate in the labor and employment group. Previously she was an associate at Foster Pepper PLC. Rachel is codirector of Practical Law's Labor & Employment Service.

Laura Sulem joined Practical Law from Golenbock Eiseman Assor Bell & Peskoe LLP, where she was a senior litigation associate concentrating on complex commercial litigation in state and federal courts. Previously she was a litigation associate at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP. Laura is the director of Litigation.

Stephanie Jeshiva joined Practical Law from Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP, where she was an associate in the asset management group. Stephanie is the editor-in-chief of Practical Law The Journal: Transactions & Business.

Public Sector

Zach Ratzman joined Practical Law from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Office of the General Counsel in Washington, DC, where he advised senior DHS leadership on privacy, information sharing, and congressional oversight matters. Before that, Zach worked for nearly a decade at several major New York City law firms, where his practice focused on securities and accounting fraud litigation. Before entering private practice, he clerked for the late Honorable Harold Baer, Jr., in the Southern District of New York. Zach is the director of Practical Law's Public Sector Service.

Lilly Gerontis joined Practical Law from Chadbourne & Parke LLP, where she was a senior attorney in the real estate group specializing in project finance. Before that, she was a senior associate in the real estate group at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. Lilly is the director of Practical Law's Real Estate Service.

Trusts & Estates

Robert Lawton joined Practical Law from Henningson & Snoxell LTD, where he was an attorney in the Estate Planning group handling a wide range of estate planning, probate, and trust administration matters, including planning for taxable estates in both separate property and community property jurisdictions. Previously he was an associate at Meagher & Geer PLLP. Robert is head of the Practical Law's Trusts & Estates Service.
