2023 government fraud, waste, and abuse survey report

Are prevention efforts keeping pace or losing ground?

This year, the Thomson Reuters “2023 government fraud, waste, and abuse report” is based on a survey of state and local government workers to assess whether they have the tools and resources they need to effectively prevent, detect, and investigate fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA). The most significant finding is that front-line government employees have largely put the global pandemic behind them. Previous surveys highlighted the disproportionate impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic; those lessons seem to have been taken to heart and the challenges are at a new “normal.” According to the survey, the basic concerns are tight budgets, too much work, insufficient resources, obsolete technology, staffing issues, and lack of time for professional development.
